Each year on September 21st, we observe World Peace Day at ASH. Established by the United Nations in 1981, World Peace Day is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. Globally, various events take place to mark this monumental day, including right here in The Hague, the world capital of Peace and Justice.
Led by the Grade 8 Peace Coalition and as part of these celebrations, 150 ASH students and staff participate in the 2018 Walk of Hope, an 8 kilometer walk from the International School of The Hague to the Peace Palace, the icon and symbol of world peace. The event brings together 1500 youth from area schools and aims to spread the message of non-violence, solidarity, and peace.
The Grade 8 Peace Coalition also leads the organization of the ASH Middle School Peace Messages, which they hang on the Peace Tree on campus en route to The Hague. The Walk of Hope and Peace Messages events support World Peace Day and are the brainchild of the non-profit group called Peace One Day, which receives United Nations endorsement.
