ASH Students Published in International Young Writers Competition

by Serene Ottes, Middle School Enrichment Teacher

With a chance to be published, American School of The Hague (ASH) Middle School students were challenged at the beginning of the school year to share what they love most about summer, in poetry form, using the poetic style of their choice. Students from around the world took up the challenge to answer the question "what does summer mean to you?", and four of our ASH Middle School students in Grades 7 and 8 won:
  • Diya
  • Callie
  • Charlotte
  • Ecem
Congratulations to these students who were published, April 2018, in an anthology entitled Midsummer Night Rhymes: Fun in the Sun.

These writing contests are offered as part of our Middle School enrichment opportunities. Students typically write and revise their entries during Writer’s Block, a Wednesday lunch club where students can seek feedback from each other and the Enrichment Teacher. What a success for these students, at such a young age, to be published writers. Literary success is most certainly in their futures, well done to the winners and all of the additional participants.
