The Adult Education Program is an enrichment program of the ASH Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), developed to provide opportunities for our parents and others in our community. The program has two semesters, Fall and Spring, and offers a wide range of classes and activities. The courses are taught by people with expertise in their field and are coordinated by parent volunteers on the Adult Education Committee. Each semester, teachers offer new courses, so there are always some new surprises as well as the established repeat courses!

We offer a wide range of courses! Our courses range from single session cooking and art classes, to one day tours, to multi-week language and fitness courses. We divide our courses into these main categories: - Arts - Culinary - Health and Fitness - Languages - Personal Growth
We offer Tours to many places such as Leiden, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Haarlem, Amstelveen, Den Hague, and many more in NL! And we will take you to many activities such as art tours, museums, scooter tours, biking tours, flower auction tours, churches, towns, villages, local exhibits, and markets (such as Gouda's Candlight Ceremony and Christmas Markets in Aachen). We encourage everyone to try at least one tour and let us take the challenge of organizing and planning so that you can simply enjoy the NL!
You can browse the courses and sign up online during the registration period. During this process you create an account, and select courses to register for, before proceeding to the checkout. Payment is processed via iDEAL which requires a Dutch bank account with internet banking.
You can browse the courses online, but then come to In-Person Registration at Monday Morning Networking at ASH. Each semester the times and days for this are published on the Adult Education pages of the website. At In-Person Registration, payment in cash or PIN is accepted.
All are welcome! We encourage ASH parents to invite friends, family, and neighbors to our courses and tours. The program is designed not only for ASH parents, but also for those who make up the broader community around ASH. Many find our program to be an excellent way to introduce themselves to the community and to network within the community.
The teachers come from many walks of life. Some are professional teachers, and some are people with a particular skill or passion that they would like to share. You can read more about each instructor in their biography which is included in the detailed listing of each course.
Courses range from one session to ten or twelve. It depends on the course and the teacher. Most of the health and fitness classes and language classes are full 10 week sessions, while the culinary courses and tours are all single day events. The day, time and number of sessions are detailed in the course listings.
New classes start every semester. The Fall Semester begins in September, and the Spring Semester begins in January. Please be aware that there is a signup period in August for the Fall Semester, and January for the Spring Semester, and it is not normally possible to join classes mid-semester.
For potential teachers, the application process starts in April for the Fall Semester, and October for the Spring Semester. You can offer repeat or new classes every semester.
No. Every class has a minimum number of people required for it to run. Regretfully every semester there are some classes that do not have enough people signed up. In this situation the class is cancelled and those who have signed up are notified and receive a full refund.
To ensure that the class/es you've signed up for meet their minimum numbers, encourage your friends to sign up too!
For full semester courses, we will allow students to join up to two weeks after Language and Health & Fitness courses have begun. More time beyond that creates a distraction for the instructor, and you will be too far behind to enjoy it. You may join a Culinary course if the course is running and there is space available. Arts and Personal Growth courses are a little different. The best thing to do is contact email@example.com, and we can advise you more individually regarding those and any course.
For tours, if there is space available, it is normally possible to sign up extra people, so encourage your friends to join you! Some courses do need to close registration up to one week in advance so that our Tours Coordinators may submit their tour group information to the tour provider. We also must reserve transportation well in advance as well and need final numbers up to one week in advance.
We do not offer auditing of classes. But if a class has been offered before, you can ask around, and likely you'll be able to find out more about it. The instructors will also be happy to provide you with more information about any class. Just get in touch with our committee, and we will get you in touch with an instructor in that field for you!
No, sorry, we have tried that approach before, but it is not satisfactory for the teachers. They do not want the responsibility of ensuring people pay, and chasing up the ones who don't pay or don't show. It is better for everyone if the fee is collected by us before the course. Additionally, if you do not have a Dutch bank account just yet, we do offer cash payment opportunities at Monday Morning Networking meetings at the beginning of each Student Registration period. Stay tuned to our website for those dates, or simply contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
If it is within the online registration period, just go back to the Browse Courses and Register page, log in to your account, and register for the additional classes you would like to take. Alternatively, you can come along to in-person sign up on the scheduled days.
If it is after the signup period, contact email@example.com to see if space is still available in your desired additional courses.
You can sign up friends and family to courses online using your account by adding members to your account.
Go to the Browse Courses and Register page, log in to your account (or create a new account if you do not already have one) and click on Manage Members on the left hand menu. You can then add one or more new members to your account. Then, when you register for a course, you can select from a drop-down list which member (or yourself) you are registering for,
Contact firstname.lastname@example.org and send your ideas to us. The coordinator related to your area will contact you and advise you. Once the Instructor Registration period opens (in April for the Fall Semester, and October for the Spring Semester) you can complete the online forms to submit your courses. See our main page for the memo named "What Do I Do Next?"
Full refunds are given if a class is cancelled due to low enrollment. If you wish to cancel your place in a class, you must email email@example.com prior to the end of In-Person Registration at MMN. Refunds can take up to two weeks and will be issued to the bank number with which you regsitered. After In-Person Registration, no cancellations/refunds are possible, but you may transfer your place to a friend, or sell your place on the Yahoo group ASHBuySell, Friends of Wassenaar Facebook page, or Wassenaar Buy & Sell Facebook page.
