The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a group of parents and teachers that work together to aid and support existing school projects, as well as to provide new resources where they don't already exist. Our efforts are intended to improve and/or enhance the school experience for our children. Every parent within the school is automatically a member of the PTO.
Please make use of our services, and if you would like to become more involved, consider joining one of the organizing committees. You can sign up for PTO on InsideASH (behind the password). Some of the PTO functions provide direct benefits to the children and some provide indirect benefits. Some are fundraisers, most are not. Volunteering at ASH through the PTO is a long-standing tradition.
The Adult Education Program is an enrichment project for the ASH community offering a variety of classes and activities during the school year in the areas of Arts, Health & Fitness, Culinary, Languages, and Personal Growth while also offering day tours for those living close to ASH. See Adult Education website for more information.
An information fair held at the beginning of the school with representation from numerous organizations, this provides a chance to meet friends, old and new, and to see all the wonderful opportunities on offer within the school as well as the wider community.
Works with the Arts Department to support students and staff during theater and musical productions and events. After concert receptions, floral gifts, student recognition activities (locker banners), and extra helping hands all fall under the Friends of the Arts umbrella. Throughout the year, Friends of the Arts helps with approximately 17 band, strings, choir and drama events that take place in campus and around Wassenaar.
A school wide celebration of all of the nationalities making up our ASH community. Originally organised for the Elementary, this event has grown to include Middle and High School. It also started as International Day and due to the relevance of this event in our community it has now evolved to International Festival, which is celebrated during two days.
Each year parents volunteer to be the contact point for new and prospective parents from their home country. If you would like to contact a parent from your country, please check the International Parent Ambassadors List and contact your international representative. If you have any questions or would like to be part of this Committee, please contact them via firstname.lastname@example.org.

The Spring Bazaar and PTO Volunteer Fair is held in March in the ABF building (adjacent to the school). It is a chance for local vendors from Wassenaar, The Hague, and families to showcase their small businesses. This fair is a non-profit event which brings our community together to celebrate spring and to encourage volunteer work with the ASH PTO, while supporting our local entrepreneurs.
The Sustainability Committee works to embed sustainability into our daily lives at American School of The Hague (ASH). Members work on a range of issues; from improving waste and recycling on campus to promoting carpooling, or finding ways to embed sustainable themes into the curriculum. As a school, we are working towards a better integration of sustainable activities across the school and to get higher levels of student involvement. For more information, please contact email@example.com.
For most parents and students at ASH, the Parent Welcome Committee is the first of all the PTO committees to have contact with when transferring to our school. Making new families feel welcome and at ease is a very important task, but also a fun and rewarding one. This committee is am integral part of the Safe Harbour program; Welcomers greet new families, help with the transition and host Welcoming Coffees throughout the year.
All funds raised by the PTO are used to support the school and supplement current needs. Over the last 5 years, almost 100,000 Euros were invested into 47 different school projects and activities. That includes multiple programs such as athletics, art, music, facilites and community events.
This grant will provide financial assistance to a limited number of families on a needs basis to allow them to have their child participate in one of the Global Service Projects, a unique learning opportunity that the school offers. On a trial basis the PTO has set aside a budget of 2,000 Euros (to be divided into four grants of 500 Euros each) for the 2017 - 2018 school year to help families cover part of the travel fees.
