Welcome letter from the Director, Courtney Lowe

Dear Families,
I would like to extend a warm welcome to the American School of The Hague (ASH) website and encourage you to browse the site and contact us to come and visit the campus. Our Admissions Department would be delighted to hear from you. We are so pleased to be embarking on a new year of learning and growing in our vibrant community. At the center of that community are, of course, the students we serve. We commit to you to do our utmost to provide challenges and opportunities to help them grow in knowledge, and also in respect, responsibility, integrity, empathy, and as strong communicators - all of the Core Values that undergird all we do at the school.
I am excited to have joined such a prestigious learning community. Having served in teaching and leadership roles in international schools for more than 20 years, I nevertheless get excited as each new school year begins. I hope the same can be said for your family. Every year is an opportunity to stretch ourselves just a bit further and push beyond our comfort zone into new possibilities. This is certainly the case with my family, having moved to Wassenaar from Beijing, China last summer. We look forward to continuing to integrate into the life of the school and helping to chart the course for the future of ASH.
At the start of the year, new faculty joined us from around the world and brings a wealth of international teaching experience to complement our world-class faculty.  As I am also in that group, one of my first goals for this year has been to gain a comprehensive plan to get to know the people, strengths, and issues that are important for ASH going forward. I will share the results with the entire community as we take stock and forge plans for the future and the way we facilitate learning for all.
Finally, as fellow parents at ASH, I enjoy working together to help the young people in our charge become the leaders and problem solvers of tomorrow. We can do this best by understanding everyone’s needs and further creating a school that responds to each person as an individual. We are all - students and adults - learners in a learning organization, and as such, we will only progress when we work together.
With warm regards,

J. Courtney Lowe, Ed.D.
