The Peace Coalition mission is to promote peace inside and outside the school community, to listen to and learn from upstanders and victims of conflict, and to create opportunities for others to participate in peaceful initiatives. With this goal in mind, this group from the Middle School is working very actively around ASH and with the local community during the month of May, the month of peace. On Thursday, May 2nd the students were giving away some leaflets to promote peace at the school and students and staff from all grade levels were able to write in their calendar boards “dates of peace in their own lives” the activities or initiatives they have participated and that promote peace.
Following the tradition, on Saturday, May 4th during “Dodenherdenking” (Remembrance Day) some students from this coalition read a poem and laid a wreath in Wassenaar to commemorate the victims from the second World War. They also paused and honored the 2 minutes of silence at 20:00 for all those victims.
The Peace Coalition group will continue their activities during this month, don’t be surprised if you’re asked to participate and/or collaborate with any peaceful activities around campus.
