Celebrating Disability Awareness Week

Last week, our High School Special Education (HSSE) program students hosted the third annual Disability Awareness Week, an opportunity for the ASH community to strengthen our understanding around the challenges the world’s largest minority group faces and to celebrate ASH’s commitment to inclusion and diversity. In celebration of our diversity, the Middle School Special Education students made this video.

Some of the awareness-raising activities included the viewing of Dan Habib’s documentary ‘Intelligent Lives’; wearing blue to support Autism Spectrum Disorder; and a Wednesday crazy socks photo contest in support of Down Syndrome Awareness. The contest winners include Ben in the High School, the Middle School Special Education class, and Transition Kindergarten A in Elementary School.

This annual awareness-raising week reinforced, yet again, our pride in being an inclusive school.
