Bernie's Corner

Welcome to Bernie's Corner!

Are you looking for a fun idea for the weekend, whether it be a trip, an event, or a special activity? Then look no further. Our resident expert, Bernie Eek, shares her Weekend Tips with you to ensure you and your family always have something fun to do!

Bernie has a rich history at ASH – not only as our former IB/AP Administrative Assistant, but also as the parent of student alumni Stephanie and Michelle Yarnell and as the wife of current High School Music Teacher Jim Yarnell. Prior to her life at ASH, she had 20+ years of experience in tourism; she worked as a local guide and event organizer in The Netherlands and as a European tour manager (which is actually how she met her husband Jim!).

She can strongly relate to our ASH lifestyle and community – to what makes our community unique and what our international families need to feel “at home away from home.” Feel free to reach out to her for questions or ideas:

Each week you can enjoy her insider perspective to life in the Netherlands to help you feel at home.

  • Weekend Tips: Friday, December 13 - Sunday, December 15

Before we run around town (and country) to finish up the final shopping before the Holiday Season starts and we have to endure busy roads, stations and airports, let's stay at school for a wonderful concert by the ASH Community Choir.

"Not quite a Silent Night… The ASH Community Choir merrily invites you to its annual Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 18 at 19:00 in the ASH theater. With great delight we will share with you a few of our favorite songs – from Mozart to Irish ballads – chosen and conducted by Liat Alkan and accompanied on the piano by Marie Searles. We hope you will chime in with us during the Christmas Carols Singalong, adding extra harmony to seasonal classics. After the concert, we welcome you to our festive End of the Year Reception. Admission is free and as ASH Community Choir is open to new members, this concert is a jolly opportunity to meet us". Friday, December 13th we celebrate with our Scandinavian students and parents their Festival of Lights, "Santa Lucia". This is another wonderful opportunity to pick up those last Christmas presents.
