ASH began offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in 1994, with graduates going on to many of the finest universities around the world. Top universities recognize the academic integrity of the Diploma Programme, its academic range, and the high level of study skills each student is encouraged to develop. The underlying IB philosophy at ASH combines academic rigor with a variety of co-curricular and community service projects. Students may choose to enroll in either the full diploma programme or take a selection of courses for certificates. PROFILE OF AN ASH GRADUATE
At American School of The Hague we strive to provide our students with an education that emphasizes academic rigor, differentiates instruction for learners’ needs, and extends to co-curricular activities. It also provides extensive opportunities for each student to grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally. When a student leaves ASH, we aim to ensure that they are equipped for a successful future, no matter the pathway they choose to take upon graduation.
The Advanced Placement International Diploma consists of taking academically challenging AP courses that are designed to expose able and motivated high school students to college-level academic material. This diploma is a globally recognized certificate award for students with an international outlook and it challenges students to display high achievement on AP exams across at least three disciplines. The General Diploma provides an appropriately challenging and flexible option for students who benefit from substantial learning support and an individualized program. Students will be able to choose from a variety of courses to support their success in reaching individual post-secondary goals and actualizing their potential. One of the main differences between this diploma and the ASH High School Diploma is the number of core credits vs. elective credits (please see the program of studies for more information). It may be possible that students who earn a General Diploma at ASH will not be able to transition into a four-year university directly after high school. It is important to research which options your child is interested in following graduation from ASH and what the requirements are.
The ASH High School Diploma combines International Baccalaureate Certificate courses, Advanced Placement and ASH high school courses as well as other special projects and experiences. Our learners on this pathway of study, can take a range of subjects and earn credits towards their diploma in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Modern Languages, Physical Education and Health, IT, Fine or Performing Arts, and electives. They may also combine internships, passion projects or independent learning in their studies. Students who opt in to this diploma go on to gain acceptance at top universities and colleges around the world.
