At American School of The Hague, students develop the knowledge, skills, and mindset to create their own distinct pathways toward graduation and life beyond school. While academic challenge is both supported and encouraged, learning extends beyond the classroom—it is a journey of self-discovery, building meaningful connections, and fostering lasting relationships.

Our Curriculum
Accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the ASH High School provides students with the flexibility to choose a graduation pathway that aligns with their individual interests, learning styles, academic strengths, and future aspirations. While most students pursue university-preparatory tracks, many others thrive in vocational fields. All students are encouraged to engage in our extensive extracurricular offerings, including arts, clubs, and athletics, to fully enrich their high school experience.
Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate?
The Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs are both academically rigorous pathways recognized by universities worldwide.
AP provides flexibility through year-long courses that can be combined with non-AP subjects, allowing students to tailor their learning.
In contrast, the IB program is a comprehensive two-year curriculum that offers a structured yet flexible journey, guiding students through their final years of high school while fostering a well-rounded academic experience.
Hands-on and Meaningful STEM experiences
At the High School level, students have the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, bringing their visions to life in areas such as robotics and engineering. Guided by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and supported by AP and IB frameworks, students are taking their learning to new heights through robotics competitions, immersive programs with corporate partners like IKEA, and extracurricular clubs where they bring STEM to life through creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
High school counseling: supporting student growth for a successful future
In High School, every student has a dedicated counselor to support both their personal growth and academic choices. We support students as they navigate college and career opportunities, ranging from individual counseling meetings to workshops and college fairs. ASH hosts the annual CIS College Fair, one of the largest international college fairs in the Netherlands, offering our students a unique opportunity to connect with university and college representatives from across the globe.

Grade Placement and International School Comparisons
Your child's placement is determined by their educational background and age as of October 1. Typically, High School accepts students aged 14 to 17. In comparison to other international schools, Grade 9 is similar to MYP 4 in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, Year 10 in the British GCSE system, or 3e klas in Dutch Middelbare School.
