THE ASH EXPERIENCE CONTINUES VIRTUALLY

In the interest of our school community, ASH made the decision to shift to our virtual learning environment as from Tuesday, March 17. On Sunday, March 15, the Dutch government announced that all schools and daycare facilities would be closed until Monday, April 6. Further to this announcement, there were extensions to the school closures in order to keep our population safe and manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

We planned for the safe and carefully managed re-opening of the ASH elementary school campus on May 12, prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of everyone concerned at all times. Preschool through Grade 4 families had the opportunity to choose between two options: continue with ASH's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) or send their child to campus for half days. Rather than implementing a schedule of rotating days or one that alternates mornings with afternoons, as is being done in many Dutch schools, we opted to run an everyday schedule with shortened hours. This provides greater continuity for student learning and offers more support for parents to plan their family schedules, particularly in consideration of those in our community with children in different grade levels.

Our middle and high schools will reopen on June 2 following the parameters set out by the government and again ASH is giving our families the choice to send their children back to campus or to continue in the virtual learning environment. We thank our entire community for partnering with us since we entered our VLE in mid-March. It has been wonderful to see the creative ways parents and children have engaged with ASH’s VLE offered by our talented and dedicated teachers.
