At American School of The Hague, your child can explore their academic and co-curricular passions and interests all under one roof. We offer an extraordinary co-curricular program offering daytime activities, after-school clubs, activities, sports, language, music classes and more.

We believe that learning in a classroom environment is only part of the ASH experience. Our students, parents and staff have opportunities to explore their interests and extend their skill set throughout our campus by our excellent faculty and external instructors.

The Scouts participate in local and international camping trips to build leadership.

Art Club is only one part part of our program endowing our learners with important lifelong skills, such as inquiry, creativity, empathy, resilience and teamwork.

The Robotics Club is part of our Academic and Brain Based Building program which collaborates closely with our IT program.

The co-curricular music program offers instrumental and voice lessons and a partnership with an active community choir.

Our student peace team represents ASH at various public peace and justice events in the area. ASH is also a founding school of The Hague International Model United Nations, the largest Model United Nations Conference globally, attracting student diplomats from around the world, including ASH students.

Academic Based & Brain Building Clubs

At ASH, we are committed to promoting increased student growth and achievement by consistently implementing best instructional practices. We offer after school clubs to connect those with similar passions and skill sets while strengthening problem-solving skills and growth mindset. Some examples of our academic based and brain building clubs include Chess, Robotics, Programming, Makers Club and more.

Art

All ASH students have the opportunity to engage in the arts. We believe art is a crucial part of our holistic education endowing our learners with important lifelong skills, such as inquiry, creativity, empathy, resilience and teamwork. Our commitment to the arts curriculum is expanded by offering after school art clubs available for all grade levels such as clay modeling and abstract art classes.

There are two dedicated art classrooms in the Elementary School, and the modern art wing on our Main Campus includes a 480-seat theater, dedicated studios and classrooms.

Community Service, Global Outreach & Teamwork

At ASH, we learn how to build a better world as we become better human beings. In partnership with the local and global community, we gain an appreciation for unique issues, and gradually develop the skills and attitudes to help identify select social and environmental hurdles that require our attention and support. The co-curricular offerings expand skills with leadership, exploring nature, woodworking, campouts and also include local volunteer opportunities at the school and around the community. ASH offers several Scouting groups, Sustainability Clubs, Garden Clubs and more.

Drama & Theatre

Drama and Theatre Clubs are designed for students interested in learning more about the aspects of theater. This includes learning stage terminology, working on acting skills, set building, and costumes/makeup design. At ASH, the performing arts is a place to promote communication skills, teamwork, socialize and self confidence. The theatre clubs work to stimulate creativity, imagination and movement and to develop a better understanding of human behavior, empathy and sympathy through reading a diverse selection of plays and scripts. There are opportunities for all ages to be involved and develop creativity and passion for the arts. We have completed a series of plays some of which has been written and produced by our staff and students!

Information Technology

The Information Technology (IT) Department believes that all students should be exposed to everything related to computing technology, such as software, hardware, networking, the Internet, and the people that work with these technologies. We offer day time and after school activities for all ages to inquire and deepen their knowledge of technology, programming, robotics and current AI advancements.

Instrumental & Choir

ASH has more than 20 professional music teachers from the community who offer instruction on brass, percussion, and string instruments as well as guitar, piano, voice and woodwinds for our students. The co-curricular music program aims to develop instrumental skills and play group and individual pieces. ASH also partners with a local choir to perform at various events throughout the school year.

Language Clubs and Courses

The ASH community consists of over 74 nationalities, therefore, we believe that language is at the heart of learning and acknowledges that language acquisition and development is crucial for exploring and sustaining cultural identity, personal development, and intercultural understanding. The language clubs and courses available in the co-curricular program allows parents, staff and students to learn and appreciate various languages, different cultures and perspectives and become responsible global citizens.

The Modern Languages Department offers language acquisition courses designed to provide students with the skills and intercultural understanding that will enable them to communicate successfully in another language. The study of additional languages gives students the ability to express their ideas, explore identities, sustain personal development and understand different perspectives through learning about languages and diverse cultures. Advanced language learning offers social, cultural, academic and workplace benefits that will serve students throughout their lives.

Mindfulness

At American School of the Hague, we believe there is a strong correlation and link to wellbeing and learning, hence a a growing library of practices throughout the school to support the wellbeing of our community. We offer various programs for positive psychology and education, books clubs on emotional management, and practical courses on physical wellbeing activities such as mindfulness yoga.

Sports and Physical Activities

All ASH students, parents and staff have the opportunity to join our extensive seasonal athletics co-curricular program that includes over 10 sports and countless opportunities to compete locally. Our state-of-the-art athletic facilities include outdoor sports fields and athletic courts on each of our campuses. In our Main Campus, you can find two indoor sport halls and a modern gym.

Our peaceful location in Wassenaar allows our students to extend their training beyond our campus, and into the surrounding lustrous green areas. Our athletes develop their technical skills, endurance levels, and sports strategies and tactics, and learn about the importance of team spirit, self-discipline, team work, goal-setting, and sportsmanship.

The daytime, evening and after school offerings include volleyball, ultimate frisbee, dance, softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, and many more.
