World Travelers for a Day

Grade 2 students used a gigantic interactive globe to launch their geography and science units, where they learned about continents and about the Earth inside and out, respectively. They noticed the details of the globe that were raised or recessed to show mountains and coral reefs. For their reflection, they filled out a “What do I notice? What do I wonder?” chart in their small groupings.

“I noticed the red line across the world might be the ring of fire or volcanoes. I liked that I could see many countries on the big globe because usually I only have a flat map. I learned that pangea used to be a super continent.” - Helena, student

“I noticed there were a lot of countries on the huge globe. I learned that some islands in the middle of the ocean have funny names. It was cool that we had a big globe that we could touch and look around the entire world.” - Gavi, student

“It was such a rich learning experience for our second graders to be able to use this huge and interactive globe from the High School library. The students were able to manipulate the globe and thus deepen their knowledge about the world. They noticed so many interesting details about the world and asked amazing questions!” - Erin, teacher
