Stronger Together Through Sports

Our athletic programs give our community a focal point for school spirit and pride and that competition brings together students, faculty, staff, and families. Even during difficult pandemic times, we have been able to find creative ways for our student-athletes to continue being active and part of the team. That is why kickstarting our fall athletic season and having over 400 students already signed up is a milestone.

Kamilla, Student
“I am so glad to be able to have actual games again. This is what I missed the most last year. We have fun!”

During Teacher Collaboration meetings, the Athletics department met and discussed how ASH defines success. Our Athletics Director, Mr. Chris says, that: “While the goal is to win, the purpose is something much deeper. Our educational-based model focuses on growing the athlete, but more importantly the growth of the person. We want great athletes, but we want outstanding people even more. Our goal is for all of our student athletes to become the best version of themselves.” The Athletic Department seeks to provide a holistic approach to student athletes by focusing on lifelong lessons that are grounded in our ASH Core Values.

The 2021/2022 school year also marks the launch of the Sports Medicine class as part of our IB Program. It involves the study of the science that underpins physical performance. The course incorporates the traditional disciplines of anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, psychology and nutrition. This provides an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and understanding necessary to apply scientific principles and critically analyse human performance.

Ms. Becki, Teacher
“The addition of the new IB Sports, Exercise and Health Science course provides an opportunity for students to learn about human anatomy, physiology and the biomechanics of sports. Students who are curious about how the human body moves and functions or who wish to pursue a career in rehabilitation, sports research, personal training or education engage in a variety of discussions and labs.”

Naomi, Student
“I’m really excited to be able to go back to my sports. They keep me active and distracted from academic work.”
