Red Carpet Premiere of Award-Winning Film The Ice Cream Man to be Hosted at American School of The Hague

American School of The Hague (ASH) proudly announces the red carpet premiere of The Ice Cream Man, an award-winning short film recounting the powerful and moving story of Ernst Cahn, an Amsterdam ice cream parlor owner and the first person in the Netherlands arrested and executed by the Nazis for resistance activities. The premiere will take place on Thursday, December 12, at 19:00, hosted on the ASH campus and is open to the public.

Tickets for the event are available for €100 at this link

All proceeds will support the development of an educational curriculum inspired by the film, created in partnership with the Anne Frank Center. This curriculum will be piloted at ASH and later distributed to schools, libraries, and museums worldwide. Designed for use in language arts, social studies, and film studies, the program will also empower students to use their voices, stand up against hate, and advocate on behalf of the oppressed.

Written and directed by Robert Moniot, who is also an ASH parent, The Ice Cream Man has already earned multiple prestigious awards and is currently a contender for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. The film vividly portrays Ernst Cahn’s heroism, which catalyzed the February Strike of 1941 in Amsterdam—the largest anti-Nazi protest in history. In a unique connection to the ASH community, the film also features scenes shot at the Wassenaarse Slag, a local beach frequented by students, families, and faculty alike.

The premiere will include a panel discussion with members of the cast and crew, including writer-director Robert Moniot and acclaimed actors Noah Emmerich (The Americans, The Truman Show), and Derek De Lint (Jack Ryan, Soldier of Orange).

“This event exemplifies ASH’s commitment to bringing learning to life and making the world a better place,” says ASH Director Dr. Courtney Lowe. “We are honored to host this premiere, not only to celebrate the artistic achievements of our community but to contribute to an initiative that will educate and inspire future generations about resistance, courage, and the impact of standing against injustice.”

ASH invites members of its community and beyond to attend this remarkable evening, uniting history, education, and art to honor the legacy of resistance and resilience.
