United in the Commitment to Peace and Justice

Each year on September 21, people around the world celebrate International Day of Peace. Students, teachers and staff members wrote messages of peace (a wish, a quote, a pledge) to hang in our ASH Peace Trees.

“As simple as wearing white for this day may seem, it is also a powerful statement uniting people across the planet in their individual commitment to supporting peace and justice for all. Above all, it is an invitation and a challenge for all of us to pause and reflect on how we can all help make the world a better place. Especially those of us living in The Hague, the global city of Peace and Justice, we are in a perfect place to make a strong commitment to this movement, not just symbolically for a day, but actively year round.” - Mr. Bart, CAS & Service-Learning Coordinator

“I wrote ‘When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace’, by Jimi Hendrix. This has a very deep meaning to me. If people have more love in their lives, peace will be present.” - Nick, student

“I decided to write a poem because I learned about peace in my English class yesterday. If we want to live in peace, we need to relax and not fight, we should be calm and friendly.” - Anastasia, student

“I wrote ‘Peace begins with a smile’. I find this very true. If you’re having an argument, and you smile at that person, half of the job is done. You get closer to that person.” - Madeleine, receptionist

"Peace is when the sun is out.
Peace is when you sleep by the fire.
Peace is playing with your friends.
Peace is being together with your family.
Peace is biking by myself.
Peace is being kind to the animals.” - ECC Students
