Marta - Combining a Passion for Athletics and the Arts

Meet Marta, ASH student since 2012.  Next year, Marta is going to Eastern Michigan University, studying art and she was awarded a partial scholarship for track and field.

"I feel that many of the people I’ve met have shaped me into the person I am today."

What does the #ASHexperience mean to you?
It is the diversity in our community that I enjoyed so much and made a lasting impact on me.

Can you think of how you experienced #BeingWellDoingWell at ASH?
When I was little, I enjoyed running during PE class at my previous school. When I came to ASH, I was encouraged by my mom to join the cross country team in fifth grade, I loved it so much that I also joined the track and field team, and the same happened. In sixth grade, with some of my experience from the previous year, I set higher goals for myself. I became the NECIS winner for cross country, track events, and a NECIS record holder for 1500m. Then in seventh grade, I decided to join the high school team for cross country and track and field. There I was allowed to compete in ISST and get my first wins in both areas. That same year I also joined a Dutch club, Leiden Athletiek and as a part of that team, I was able to compete in Dutch races and even nationals. In tenth grade, I also joined a Spanish club, Club de Atletismo Albacete and I was able to compete in a couple of Spanish nationals. Throughout the last two years I have continued to participate in all three teams.

#ASHvoices
We have a diverse community of students, staff, and families from around the world. Each member of our community brings their own background and story that enrich the ASH experience.
