Meet Malo, ASH student since 2009
“As I'm writing this, I realize how much ASH has influenced me. I have always looked forward to going to school. Since elementary school, I was always eager to see my friends and learn.”
What does the #ASHexperience mean to you?
My ASH experience has been overall really enjoyable. I have always looked forward to going to school. Since elementary school, I was always eager to see my friends and learn. Now, in high school, I look forward to learning about topics I am interested in. ASH has a very friendly learning environment and many different subjects to choose from. Also, some subjects have fantastic devices, which allows for a very hands-on learning experience (for example, the design-tech room and the theater).
What will you miss the most about ASH when you graduate?
As I'm writing this, I realize how much ASH has influenced me. The thing I will miss the most about ASH is without a doubt the teachers. I befriended many of my teachers over the years and always say hi to them in the hallways. I will most certainly miss break time with my friends, joking about the cafeteria food and nervously discussing answers to recently-taken-tests.
I will miss the liveliness of students during color house events in middle school and during grade events in high school. I will miss the competitiveness of the Trojans when it comes to sports. I will miss the library, with its countless books, gentle librarians and eternal games of chess among friends. I will miss attending jazz band weekly with my friends and the fantastic conductor, Mr. Y. But most of all, I'll miss walking through the school and seeing the colors of ASH.
About Being Well, Doing Well
I think that if a student is feeling well and comfortable at school, they will prosper and succeed academically. I am a quite strong believer in this. The environment and feel of a school will have a direct impact on how well the students will learn and feel. I think ASH does a very good job at promoting creativity. Students learn in whichever way they want, resulting in quite successful learning.
What are you looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to heading to university. I am excited about this next chapter, to live independently and study the subjects which I enjoy. I have lived in the Netherlands for my entire life so I am "itching" to experience a different country.
