Guillermo - Young Writer and Illustrator

“It is very cool that I can share my story with people. I feel proud to see the final product now, it is a way to show my creativity.” - Guillermo, student

As an avid writer, Guillermo took NaNoWriMo to heart. The National Novel Writing Month is a global initiative in which students are challenged to write an entire story in just 30 days. The length of the novel is not set, as long as there’s writing happening everyday.

Committed to excelling at the challenge, Guillermo arranged with his family a routine to follow. “Everyday I have my reading hour. So, during November, I used this time for writing but then I also read. It was very intense, but I only got a little bit tired sometimes. It is important because you get smarter and learn more when you read and write.”

Guillermo’s dedication did not stop when he finished his writing - he also illustrated the entire book. “I wrote this book because I really like tigers. The book is about hunters attacking tigers and the tigers meet all together to do something to make the hunters go away.”

When asked about his intention to continue writing, he shared that only if combined with another passion of his - soccer. “I’ve always liked writing and reading, but I want to become a soccer player. Since soccer players have to stop at some point, maybe I can become a writer after that. I can also do both at the same time.”
