Global Service Program Closes the Year with Virtual Celebration

One of the hallmarks of an ASH education and the #ASHexperience is our focus on service learning and giving back to our local and global communities. Back in February, before the coronavirus pandemic resulted in lockdowns, travel restrictions and virtual learning, some of our ASH students and staff traveled to Nepal, Tanzania and Thailand as part of the year-long global service program at ASH.

Traditionally, a few weeks after their return, the students and their staff chaperones would host an evening at ASH, where they share the experiences they had and their learnings from the program. This year, this was not possible and so at the end of May, we held an alternative virtual celebration to reflect on these experiences, share stories and the lessons learned from these life-changing service and travel experiences.

Thanks to technology and the hard behind the scenes work of our staff and students, this virtual celebration successfully showcased the students' service program journeys: why they participated, the planning and learning, and specific program activities. They also zoomed in on their major take-aways as slideshows were playing in the background and topped off the event with a video bringing their unique experiences in Nepal, Tanzania and Thailand, respectively, to their audience.

An extra-special part of this virtual celebration was the participation of our ASH partner organizations on the ground in these locations who had submitted recorded messages about the impact of our students's service in their respective communities.
