Celebrating and Saying Farewell to the ASH 2019-2020 School Year

What a school year it has been! Looking back at the first day of school in August 2019, no one could have envisioned we would end the year, having been through months of virtual learning due to a global pandemic, with students only beginning to return to campus a few weeks before the end of the school year. And through it all our ASH community has pulled together and every single student, staff and family member has contributed to a truly unforgettable #ASHexperience this year.

Tomorrow (Thursday, June 18) is the final day of the school year. It may look different to years past but our staff, students and families have all put in a tremendous effort and we are determined to honor this, as we farewell the school year and head into the summer break.  Last week, our middle school celebrated the end of year with a virtual Color House - videos and slideshows were shared and the traditional ASH clogs were signed and given to students and teachers departing ASH this year. Our ECC students also took their celebrations outside to the school gates, so that their parents could still partake from the required distance and enjoy the end of year festivities.

Today an amended version of the Grade 4 bridge crossing will take place - a symbolic representation of these students leaving the elementary school and moving into their next chapter at ASH in the middle school. Similarly, for our Grade 8 students, their promotion ceremony will happen virtually tonight and our students and families have been encouraged to make a night of this at home - dressing up and having an extra special dinner.

There will also be the individual celebrations held in classrooms, online and socially distanced to farewell students, families and colleagues leaving ASH this year. We wish it was possible to celebrate the way we have done in the past, but we know that this year’s leaving celebrations will be special and memorable in their uniqueness. And the extra mile everyone is going shows what an important part of the ASH community and #ASHexperience you have been!

Over the summer we will be looking back at some of the highlights from the #ASHexperience 2019-2020, so make sure you keep an eye out on our website and across our social media channels for these flashbacks and memories.

Have a fun-filled and safe summer, everyone, we look forward to seeing your smiling faces in August!
