Bernie's Tips May 8 - 10
It's Mother's Day on Sunday, May 10! Maybe a bit different this year, but we've been doing so many things differently lately. You can still make a nice breakfast for mom, or find a place that offers take-out. In and around Wassenaar, there are many places and options still to treat mom to something delicious!
But especially after enjoying something tasty, it's important to get physically active. And with the weather getting better again, nothing is nicer than taking an "ommetje." That is the Dutch word for "a walk around the block." With the recent COVID-19 restrictions, the Dutch Neurological Society has developed an App that can be downloaded both on Android and iPhones named: "Ommetje". In a very fun way, it motivates you to walk every day for at least 20 minutes. You earn medals and can form a group, and at the end of every walk, you get an interesting "brain fact."
A place many of you already visited is the Muiderslot - a great castle in North-Holland in the town of Muiden. While the castle is still closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 restrictions, it has this wonderful ebook (in English). I hope you enjoy the history and that you add the Muiderslot to your "wish list" for visiting in the future.
Another popular visit is the cheese market in Alkmaar. They have created a nice, easy to read website. Fun facts for you and your children! And again, keep on adding these events to the family's wish list!
But at the business end of things, I would like to wish our AP students "Good Luck" for the coming two weeks. With an adjusted schedule, AP students from around the world will be taking their subject-related exams on the same day, at the same time, all from home. Please know that we are proud of you!
So let me end these Weekend Tips with something specially for our Seniors. Until normal circumstances, our Seniors would be enjoying many parties and ceremonies at this time, to say "goodbye" and celebrate their accomplishments. Of course, one of these parties is the Prom! Since many proms are canceled, the Broadway musical "The Prom" has come up with this great idea: Follow this link, dress-up, get together with friends, and become part of a "virtual" prom! And to everyone: have a nice weekend celebrating Mother's Day!

We build a better world as we become better human beings, hear and value every voice, keep every promise, and celebrate every achievement.
