ASH Students Achieve Highest IB Scores in The Netherlands
American School of The Hague (ASH) is proud to share that our students achieved the highest International Baccalaureate (IB) scores in The Netherlands, scoring five points above the global average. Additionally, 28% of our students scored 40 points or higher (out of possible 45 points), significantly higher than the 8.9% reported globally.

Director Dr. Courtney Lowe celebrates this amazing academic achievement saying, “these scores demonstrate strong academic performance, in particular since we do not exclude students from taking these courses. Our inclusive student body therefore shows a high level of achievement.”

ASH is committed to providing a student-centered education that builds confidence, resilience, and initiative through appropriate risk-taking and academic challenge. Unlike many schools regionally and globally, ASH actively encourages students to participate in the IB Diploma Programme. This inclusive approach ensures that any student interested in the IB Diploma Programme can benefit from its academic challenges.

The IB Diploma engages students across six disciplines, equipping them with skills and mindsets to thrive in an interconnected world. A key aspect of the curriculum is its focus on holistic education, inspiring future leaders and peace advocates through core elements like Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and Theory of Knowledge. While we celebrate the outstanding results achieved through the efforts of our students and teachers, ASH values students as more than just their exam scores." “ASH is not a school that measures itself by how its best students succeed,” says Courtney, “but by the fact that every student enjoys success.”

High School Principal David Munro shares that the High School is designed to help prepare students for the future by guiding them to become the best version of themselves. While great importance is placed on supporting the academic ambitions of every student, ASH also focuses on empowering students. “A [test score] will get you somewhere, that’s for sure,” says David, “but the question we invite students to think about and take with them for their lives after High School is what kind of person they are, and who they want to become for themselves and others.”

ASH’s commitment to an inclusive, student-centered education empowers every student to achieve their personal best, both academically and beyond. Our recent IB scores, combined with our non-exclusive approach to the IB Diploma Programme, demonstrate how ASH fosters a culture of growth, resilience, and academic challenge. Ultimately, our goal is to prepare students not only for academic success but also to become thoughtful, responsible individuals ready to make a positive impact in the world.
