A High School student wearing a burgundy sweater stands in a lush, colorful garden with trees and shrubs in the background.
For students who enjoy depth, challenge, and academic choice, the Advanced Placement (AP) program can be a good fit. Grade 12 student Michael’s journey through AP highlights how the program supports focused interests while allowing room for balance and growth.

Why Choose AP

From an early interest in computers and engineering, Michael knew he wanted a high school program that would let him concentrate on STEM subjects. AP offered exactly that. By taking AP courses as early as freshman year—and continuing with advanced science and math courses in later grades—he was able to build a strong foundation aligned with his future university plans. One of the key benefits of AP, Michael explains, is flexibility. Unlike programs that require a fixed two-year commitment, AP allows students to explore specific subjects at a higher level without being locked into a single pathway.

Balancing the AP

Schedule Michael’s week is a mix of academic challenge and meaningful extracurricular involvement. His schedule alternates between demanding AP-heavy days and lighter days that allow time for reflection and support. Outside class, he leads a Physics tutoring club, supports younger students through Scouts, and enjoys downtime with the Dungeons and Dragons club.
Planning to study engineering in the US, Michael feels the AP program has prepared him well at both academic and personal levels.
