Grade 11 Comes Together for a Day of Action
As part of this year’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Day of Action, students stepped beyond the classroom to explore how the UN's SDG goals connect to real-world challenges and opportunities. In small groups, students participated in off-campus workshops and hands-on experiences organized in partnership with local alumni, current parents, and community organizations.

The day encouraged students to take a deeper look at global issues through meaningful local action. Activities connected to a range of SDGs, including Sustainable Cities, where students joined a garden workday at ASH to learn about urban sustainability and community green spaces. For Zero Hunger, students baked food for people experiencing homelessness while also taking part in a food budgeting activity that highlighted issues of food insecurity.

Students exploring Quality Education met with asylum seekers residing at Duinrell who are currently studying English. Together, they discussed the role of education in creating opportunities before ASH students designed activities to support English language learning.

Other groups examined Reduced Inequalities through activities that simulated navigating life with various disabilities, while students focused on Life Below Water participated in a beach cleanup at Wassenaar beach. A visit to the European Space Agency highlighted Gender Equality, led by ASH parent Sara and engineer at ESTEC, emphasized the importance of supporting women in STEM careers. Meanwhile, students exploring Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions gained insight into international law during a tour of the International Criminal Court.

Through these experiences, students connected global goals with personal action and gained insights into the impact they can have within their local and global communities.
