Peace and Diplomacy

Building Global Leaders for a Better World

Peace and diplomacy are central to our academic program because they equip students with the skills and perspective to engage thoughtfully with global challenges. Our location in The Hague, a global center for peace and diplomacy, gives students unparalleled opportunities to explore these issues through real-world experiences, from Model United Nations and debate to community service and actively contributing to solutions in both local and global communities.

Model United Nations

Model United Nations (MUN) is a student-led High School club where participants role-play as delegates representing different countries, debate pressing global issues, and explore how the United Nations operates. Beyond strengthening communication and leadership skills, MUN deepens students’ understanding of diplomacy, international relations, and global challenges—encouraging them to think critically, consider diverse perspectives, and engage thoughtfully with the world.

Speech & Debate

The student-led High School Speech & Debate Club develops communication, critical thinking, and global awareness, helping students grow as thoughtful, respectful, and empathetic individuals. By learning to communicate clearly and respectfully, and to see issues from multiple perspectives, they practice diplomacy and understanding while participating in house tournaments, workshops, and international competitions.

Sustainable Development Goal Academies

The Sustainable Development Goals Academies are year-long extracurricular programs for High School students focused on designing solutions to specific Sustainable Development Goals within real communities in Nepal or Thailand. Throughout the year, students develop action plans, build meaningful partnerships, and gather resources, culminating in a week on-site where they apply, refine, and implement their projects alongside local communities.

Community Service

Whether through a club, personal interest, or the International Baccalaureate Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) program, ASH students participate in projects that support local and global organizations—volunteering at elderly homes, fundraising for causes, and enhancing the school community by assisting with events or improving shared spaces. These experiences cultivate empathy, responsibility, and a lasting commitment to positive impact.

Environmental Activities

High School and Middle School students at ASH lead sustainability initiatives, organizing activities and campaigns that connect the community with nature and promote environmental responsibility. Projects include planting pollinator-friendly gardens, implementing waste-sorting systems, and raising awareness about sustainable fashion through a creative “trash-ion” show, fostering engagement, learning, and care for the planet.

Living History Museum

In Grade 3, students explore and celebrate historical leaders and achievers who promoted peace, positivity, hope, and change. Their final project is a “Living History Museum,” where students embody figures like Jane Goodall, Marie Curie, Dr. Seuss and many more; providing examples and inspiration to make a positive impact on the world.
