Supporting Well-being and Academic Excellence

High School students cultivate the knowledge, skills, and mindset to shape their own paths toward graduation and life beyond school. Beyond academic challenge, learning is a journey of self-discovery, meaningful connections, and lasting relationships, empowering students to grow as confident, engaged, and responsible individuals.

  • The only school in the Netherlands offering Advanced Placement (AP)
  • Highest International Baccalaureate (IB) scores in The Hague region
  • Electives and after-school programs to explore passions
  • State-of-the-art facilities for science, arts, and athletics
  • Activities and gatherings supporting social-emotional learning
  • Dedicated counselors guiding personalized pathways to graduation and beyond

High School Curriculum

Accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), ASH High School provides students with the flexibility to choose a graduation pathway that aligns with their individual interests, learning styles, academic strengths, and future aspirations. While most students pursue university-preparatory tracks, many others thrive in vocational fields. All students are encouraged to engage in our extensive extracurricular offerings – including arts, clubs, and athletics – to fully enrich their high school experience.

Hands-on and Meaningful STEM experiences

High School students explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through hands-on projects in robotics, engineering, and design. Through immersive programs with partners like IKEA, STEM-focused clubs, and robotics competitions, our students develop creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking while bringing their ideas to life in real-world settings.

The Arts: Where Creativity Fuels Development

Our High School students thrive in The Arts, both during and beyond the school day. Whether through music, performing arts, or visual arts, they can explore their passions as part of the core curriculum or through vibrant after-school opportunities that enhance their lives.

Supporting Student Growth for a Successful Future

Every High School student works with a dedicated counselor to support personal growth and academic planning. Through individual meetings, workshops, and college fairs, students explore college and career opportunities. ASH hosts the annual CIS College Fair, one of the Netherlands’ largest international fairs, connecting students with universities worldwide.

Multiple Pathways to University and Beyond

The Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs are both academically rigorous pathways recognized by universities worldwide.

ASH High School Diploma

All ASH High school Students earn a US High School Diploma, accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Students choose additional qualifications based on their academic goals and future aspirations, pursuing either the AP or IB Diploma Programme—both rigorous pathways recognized by universities worldwide.

International Baccalaureate

The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year, holistic program leading to university entrance and academic preparation. Students choose IB for its balanced approach to learning and focus on international mindedness and global citizenship. Students take six courses plus the three IB Core components—Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity-Activity-Service—for a comprehensive education.

College Board Advanced Placement Program (AP)

American School of The Hague is the only school in the Netherlands offering the Advanced Placement (AP) program. The AP program offers one-year courses with exams leading to college credit. Students choose AP courses for its modular approach to learning, focusing on individual interests and strengths while selecting elective courses for their remaining studies. Students who seek deeper knowledge in areas of passion thrive in the AP program. Most students take 3–6 courses over two years.
