Private Music Lessons

Private lessons are one of the most effective ways of teaching music. The immediate guidance and feedback that a teacher can give the student encourages significant musical development. Students who take private lessons progress faster, can perform at a higher level, and gain greater enjoyment from their music.

ASH students can arrange to have private music lessons at school. These lessons complement what students learn in the music curriculum, and provide more in-depth one-to-one instruction on an instrument or voice. We are fortunate to have a range of highly qualified private music teachers who teach here at ASH.

High School students can request credit for their private music lessons.

Frequently Asked Questions about Private Music Lessons

Q.	How much do private music lessons cost?
A.	Lessons Cost € 20.00 per half-hour lesson, € 30.00 per 45-min. lesson, or € 40.00 per hour lesson. Lessons are paid for in advance, and are due 1st September, 1st November, 1st February and 1st April. Your teacher will calculate the number of weekly lessons in each time period based on the school calendar. You pay the teacher directly; they will advise you on the method of payment.

Q.	Who can take music lessons at ASH?
A.	The recognized private music teaching staff is comprised of highly trained musicians on specific instruments and voices. ASH students in grades 4 -12 are eligible for private music instruction as this is considered the appropriate age level for this level of instruction.

When are lessons available?

Q.	What happens if the student can't make it to a lesson?
A.	Every effort should be made to avoid any cancellation of a lesson. There is no refund for missed lessons. In the event of illness, speak directly with the private teacher to see if any make up lessons are possible as time permits.

Q.	How much will the student need to practice at home?
A.	Daily home practice will be a very significant factor with your musical achievement and an expectation of every private teacher. Your private teacher is a dedicated professional musician who has committed his/her time to help you attain your ultimate music potential. It is important to understand that a sense of commitment is necessary in order to make this a positive musical endeavor.

Q.	Can the student receive high school credit for their lessons?
A.	Students enrolled in the high school (grades 9-12) may receive high school course credit for private lessons (.25 credits per semester). Students wanting HS credit must sign up and request this annually to Mr. Yarnell in the Arts Center. Students requesting credit will be expected to attend all lessons and fulfill the requirements as assigned by their private teacher.
