|Weekend Tips, Friday, January 20th until Monday, January 23th|
It finally feels like Winter but, unfortunately, the ice on most canals is too dangerous to skate on. There are multiple natural skating areas created to get the feeling of skating on natural ice. So please take the advise and refrain from going on ice that is simply not safe enough. The ANWB and the local VVV's will help you in finding the natural skating rinks. The outdoor skating feeling is great but you do not want "wet feet". If you travel further to the eastern part of the country, the chances of snow and ice are more likely. We are just too close to the sea.

On Sunday, 29 January Overseas Americans Remember (OAR) will sponsor the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Tribute and Dinner. The dinner and commemoration are geared to families. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Washington, DC It was in 1986 that the Martin Luther King holiday was first commemorated in the United States as well as by a group of American women in Wassenaar. The tribute to Dr. King has been held each year in The Hague since that time. Civil rights movement When one thinks about the Civil Rights Movement, there are no words. Dr. King led the movement and the hundreds of thousands who followed him shared his belief in non-violence and his love and commitment to the United States of America and the dignity of people everywhere. So much has improved since Dr. King first spoke of 'His Dream', but the battle to eliminate racism and discrimination is still a task for today and tomorrow. The message and motto of Martin Luther King Day is a challenge for all people: 'Make this a day on, not a day off!' In other words, do something to make Dr. King’s dream a reality.
The commemoration will feature a number of distinguished speakers as well as music integral to the civil rights movement.
