The audience at 'Night To Remember', the yearly ASH talent show held on January 15th, left the theater after being treated to an amazing two-part show complete with the Time Warp, an amazing drum solo and some impressive performances from local dance groups. Over twenty bands, rappers, a harpist and pianists took part in the show, which was organized by CAS students as part of their service activities. For a week the performers and technical crew spent their free time at grueling three-hour after-school rehearsals, and at an extra full rehearsal on Saturday afternoon, perfecting scene changes, lights, and sound.
The result was a resounding success! Not only was the fully packed crowd treated to an amazing exhibition of musical and visual skill, but the ticket sales also raised over 3680 Euro! This unprecedented success could mean an expansion of the show, perhaps running an additional Sunday matinee, or opening up the show to the wider Wassenaar community.
100% of all money raised from ‘Night to Remember’ supports the two IB CAS initiatives, which are Project Possible and City Shine School. Both of these organizations were chosen and voted in by CAS students. Project Possible is a student-run organization with the aim to empower youth to stand up in the struggle against climate change. With the funds from this event, Project Possible is currently planning to run a student conference in the spring focusing on environmental issues. City Shine is the name of the primary and secondary school in a slum area of Nairobi, Kenya. The funds from ‘Night to Remember’ will support some of City Shine’s initiatives including the following:
• A safe and adequate facility with a kitchen that would allow the staff to prepare healthy meals (1-2 per day) for the students and for themselves. This initiative will not only improve the health and concentration for the children, but it will also relieve financial strain on the children’s families.
• Feminine hygiene program to supply the female students and teachers with the appropriate products during their menstrual cycle so they can continue to go to school and work during this time.
Now, what is known for sure about ‘Night to Remember’ is that this tradition is definitely well cemented into the culture of ASH. ASH talent will eagerly await next year’s performance so they too can step into the spotlight and be rock stars!
