Happy 2011 Everyone. Hope y’all had a good New Year’s. Mine was back home in Houston watching fireworks and enjoying the mild Houston winter. It was a welcome change from Winter Wonderland Wassenaar.
Gung Hay Fat Choy! On the Chinese calendar, 2011 is Lunar Year 4709 and the Year of the Rabbit. The year of the Rabbit is traditionally associated with home and family, artistic pursuits, diplomacy, and keeping the peace. Therefore, 2011 is very likely to be a relatively calmer one than 2010. Well, that’s what the internet says, I guess we will see. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests. In Middle School we are still hunting for our 2011 slogan, possibly something that will combine both ideas. We are looking at 2011 from another perspective. 2011 (two, zero, one, one): The Fun has just Begun! 2011: Trojans are #1, 2011: When You See Homework, Run! We are still seeking more suggestions. If you have some, send them my way. And please have a look at the MS Weekly Bulletin that is posted each Monday in the announcements section of InsideASH. It will give you an overview of the things that are going on in Middle School that week including all the birthdays!
As we begin the second semester, we would like to thank our PTO Coordinators- Molly Boed and Janice Koris, and all the parents for your support and help in making the first semester a very successful one for our middle school students. With your continued support, we are looking forward to an equally exciting, successful second semester.
We are happy to welcome the following students, and their families, who recently arrived in December and January:
5th Grade: Stefano from another school in The Netherlands, Stephanie from Dubai, and Peter from Malaysia
6th Grade: Zoe from Ohio, USA
7th Grade: Grace from Japan, Kezia from Egypt and Vishal from Houston.
This brings our enrollment in middle school to 327 fabulous students!
