Advanced Placement Program (AP)

ASH participates in the Advanced Placement Program of the College Board in the United States. We offer AP courses in a range of subjectsin the High School. Strong students are encouraged to sign up for these classes. Students take their AP exam/s in May, and AP classes often count towards college credit in the United States.

Advisory (High School)

A 30-minute period is set aside on Wednesday of each week for our Advisory Program. The Advisory teacher  communicates with students about personal, academic and social matters, addresses class and school related issues, and conducts regular academic reviews. The program addresses peer relations, bullying, study and organizational skills, goal setting, drug and alcohol awareness, and other areas relevant to adolescents.

Each student is assigned to an Advisory group of about ten students from their grade and they remain in this group for the duration of their High School years. The Advisory teacher also moves forward with the group so that students have the same Advisory teacher from year to year. Occasionally, the Advisory period will be used for assemblies or grade level meetings.

Advisory Program (Middle School)

The Advisory Program in Middle School focuses on the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and psychological development of students. Each student is assigned an Advisor and meets regularly in a small group, with the Advisor offering support as a teacher and advocate.

Art Masterpiece

Art Masterpiece, sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization, makes art relevant to young learners by forging a connection between great works of art and their own lives. Our parent volunteers introduce the art of many periods, cultures, and media. They work in each Kindergarten to Grade 4 classrooms, encouraging the children to look carefully at art, to ask questions about what they see, to think about technique, and to form opinions.

Assemblies (Elementary School)
During the school year, each elementary school grade level organizes and leads one assembly for all elementary school students.  The grade level chooses the topic and performs a skit, dance or sings a song to convey the message. All elementary school students take part in the assemblies, which usually last 20 minutes and are held in the Elementary School Atrium.
Assemblies (Middle School)

The Color House Council, together with the administration and staff, organizes a monthly assembly. Assemblies allow us to come together as a community to celebrate our accomplishments, showcase upcoming theater performances and events, and to enrich and extend our learning. Students sit with their advisory group, and parents are also welcome.

Assemblies (High School)
Assemblies are held in High School on a regular basis during the Advisory block. They provide an opportunity for students to hear about school-wide matters, see performances, and to hear from guest speakers.
Athletic Parents Advisory Group

The Athletic Parents Advisory Group provides support and feedback for the athletic program. Meetings are held every other month to discuss any athletic issues brought forward.

Attendance in High School - 20% Rule

Graduation from ASH depends upon a student earning the appropriate credits necessary for completing the graduation requirements. This requires regular attendance in the classes and successful completion of the academic requirements. A student who has been absent for 20% or more of the class in any subject, whatever the reason, may not gain credit or an end grade in a course for the semester.
